ASPECTS CONCERNING THE DEVELOPMENT OF GEOPHYSICAL METHODS –
OTHER THAN THE SEISMIC ONES AT S.C. PROSPECTIUNI S.A.
(Abstract)
The paper was presented on the occasion of the 70th celebration of the Romanian
geophysical prospecting activity.
The activity of applied geophysics was set up in 1925 at the Geological Institute
of Romania (GIR), at the initiative of its master, Professor Ludovic Mrazec.
The evolution of the Romanian geophysical prospecting activity can b divided
into principal periods: 1925 – 1950 and 1951 – 1955.
In the introductive part of the paper there are reminded the principal guide
marks of the Romanian geophysics development of the first period.
An important moment is the beginning of the year 1951, when, as a consequence
of the breaking up of the GIR, the activity of the geophysical prospections
is taken over by the present S.C. Prospectiuni S.A.
Further, there is presented the evolution of the geophysical prospections through
gravimetrical, magnetic, electrical, radiometrical, geothermical methods and
of the geophysical investigations at the underground mining works within the
second stage.
During the 70 years of existence, the geophysical methods diversified and improved
continually both through the taking over of the achievements obtained throughout
the world and also through certain contributions of the Romanian geophysicists.
An important conclusion of the paper is that from the beginning, the geophysical
methods of prospection placed an important part in the geological research
of Romania.
