MAIN DEVELOPMENT STAGES OF BOREHOLE GEOPHYSICS IN ROMANIA
(Abstract)
Borehole geophysics – distinct field of Applied Geophysics – originated
and developed in Romania, at the beginning, in general framework of introduction
and development of Geophysical Prospecting Methods and then, it acquired a
special status, in connection with geophysical investigation of exploration
wells drilled, especially, for hydrocarbons.
In the development of Borehole Geophysics in Romania, 4 main stages may be
delineated:
1. The stage of sporadic application of different physical parameter measurements,
between 1906 – 1930;
2. The stage of the introduction and application of electrical log and other
additional geophysical methods, between 1931 – 1950;
3. The stage of borehole geophysical methods multiplication, between 1950 – 1980;
4. The stage defined by introduction of digital acquisition of borehole geophysics
data and new investigation methods, with a significant qualitative rise of
data processing and interpretation, in geological terms, of results, starting
with 1980 to the present time.
The introduction and evolution of Borehole Geophysics applied in Romania for
exploration and exploitation wells for hydrocarbons, coal, ore deposits, mineral
salts and ground water are presented. Also, the organization of Well Logging
Services and training of geophysicists at University level for the field of
borehole geophysics, are shortly underlined in this paper.
Key words: Borehole geophysics (well logging) history.
