"CHANNEL-FILL" TYPE FACIES IDENTIFIED BY GEOPHYSICAL WELL LOGS
WITH ILLUSTRATIONS OF LEBADA AND SINOE STRUCTURES
(ROMANIAN SHELF OF BLACK SEA)
(Abstract)
In the process of sedimentary environment definition, geophysical well logs
give significant informations concerning lithology, textural sequences, sedimentary
structure identification (mainly sinsedimentary) and paleocurrents direction
determination.
Typical shapes of geophysical recorded and/or computed curves ("cylindrical" "bell", "funnel" and
combinations of them) may be interpreted in terms of depositional environment.
For depositional environment identification in the Lebada-Sinoe area (Romanian
Shelf of Black Sea) the formation analysis by volume diagrams (synergetic type
representation) obtained by integrated quantitative interpretation of primary
recorded geophysical logs, at different exploration wells were used.
The sand-sandstones sediments of Albian-Cenomanian age have been deposited
in turbiditic fan conditions of a submarine delta.
By analyzing the shape of shale content and porosity curves on synergetic type
diagrams, three characteristic types of depositional environments have been
identified: Distributary Channel deposits, Mouth Bar deposits and Deltaic Marine
Fringe deposits.
Practical implications of facies identification and sedimentary environment
definition are emphasized in the paper.
Key words: facies identification, depositional environment, geophysical well
logs.
