MAJOR RUPTURAL ELEMENTS IN THE FAGARAS MOUNTAINS
AND SOUTHERN TRANSYLVANIA
(Abstract)
The analysis of geophysical and geological data pointed out the main fractures
of the Fagaras Mountains and the Transylvanian Depression basement and shown
their contribution in generating normal of superficial earthquakes. Three categories
of faults have been separated: fault affecting the underthrusting elements
beneath the Getic and Supragetic Nappes, faults remarked in the Transylvannian
Depression basement and faults napped by geological observation, especially
in the southern areas of the Median Dacides and in the Brezoi – Titesti
post-tectogenetic depression. The main seismic events in this region are connected
with the intra-Moesian fault and with the faults system which affects the Danubian
Units.
Key words: underthrusting elements, post-tectogenetic cover.
