International Conference SOLAR AND HELIOSPERIC INFLUENCES ON THE GEOSPACE Bucharest, ROMANIA, 1 – 5 October 2012 http://www.geodin.ro/CONFERENCE2012/index.htm FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT The Balkans, Black Sea and Caspian Sea Regional Network on Space Weather Studies (BBC SWS Regional Network)  consisting of 11 countries (Bulgaria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Georgia, Greece, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Turkey, Ukraine) has the main aim to understand the role of solar drivers for geomagnetic disturbances, climate change and life on the Earth, by coordinating the research, education and dissemination activities on Solar-Terrestrial Physics, promoting  bilateral and multilateral joint projects and collaborations among member countries etc. (http://www.stil.bas.bg/IHY/).  This Conference is the fourth one organized in the frame of the BBC SWS Regional Network. The main goal of this conference  is to bring together experts in different areas of solar-terrestrial physics to give us a full picture of the origin of heliospheric  phenomena that influence space weather and Earth climate. The conference will include aspects on theory, models and  observations of the solar eruptive events; solar drivers of geoeffective events; solar wind and heliosphere; ionosphere and  magnetosphere physics; physics of the middle and lower atmosphere etc. SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZING COMMITTE: Crisan Demetrescu (Institute of Geodynamics, Romanian Academy, Bucharest, Romania) - Co-Chair Katya Georgieva (Space and Solar-Terrestrial Research Institute, Bulgaria) - Co-Chair Dragan Roša (Astronomical Observatory, Zagreb, Croatia) - Co-Chair Elchin Babayev (Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences) Ashot Chilingarian (Cosmic Ray Division, Alikhanyan Physics Institute, Yerevan, Armenia) Marina Gigolashvili (GNAO, Georgia) Natchimuthuk Gopalswamy (NASA, USA) Oleg Litvinenko (Observatory URAN-4, Radioastronomical Institute, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Odessa)  Georgeta Maris (Institute of Geodynamics, Romanian Academy, Bucharest, Romania)  Atila Ozguc (Kandilli Observatory, Turkey) Vladimir Obridko (IZMIRAN, Russia) LOCAL ORGANIZING COMMITTEE Crişan Demetrescu (Institute of Geodynamics of the Romanian Academy) Venera Dobrica (Institute of Geodynamics of the Romanian Academy) Dana Lăcătuş (Institute of Geodynamics of the Romanian Academy)  Georgeta Maris (Institute of Geodynamics of the Romanian Academy) – Chair Marilena Mierla (Institute of Geodynamics of the Romanian Academy) – Secretary Alin Paraschiv (Institute of Geodynamics of the Romanian Academy)
