THE VRANCEA SEISMIC DOUBLET OF AUGUST 1, 1985
(Abstract)
The hypocenters of the largest seismic doublet since 1935 have been relocated,
some source parameters have been estimated and the fault plane solution have
been determined. Their seismic moments are about 15 •10
dyn.
cm and 33 • 10 dyn. cm, respectively. The first shock was an inverse faulting while the second
one had also an important dextral component.
Two models for
the rupture process are proposed, both revealing a strong barrier at about
110 km depth.
