OPTIMIZATION OF SEISMIC STATIONS DISTRIBUTION IN ROMANIA
Summary
In order to analyze the distribution of the seismic stations in Romania,
standard errors of the earthquakes parameters (origin time and focus position)
for that territory have been calculated. The values of the standard errors
depend on the spatial distribution on the seismic stations and can, therefore,
be used to make quantitative comparison among different distributions of the
stations.
Nine combinations of the stations, including the existing network and proposed
positions for new observation points, are treated. If the location of new seismic
stations to the present network are adequately chosen, the accuracy in the
determination of focus parameters considerably improves.
The calculation is based on the Monte-Carlo method.
The study is preceded by a brief of the Romanian seismic department development.
