Regional variations of lithosphere rheology in Romania
(Abstract)
Principles of inferring the rheology of lithosphere are presented and applied
for two areas with very different thermal and mechanical regimes: the Pannonian
Depression Institutul de Geodinamica, Bucuresti – hot lithosphere in
extension, and the Moldavian Platform – cold lithosphere in compression.
The brittle behaviour is limited to the uppermost crust in the Pannonian Depression,
while in the Moldavian Platform the brittle behaviour is characteristic both
for the crust and the upper mantle.
Key words: rheology, lithosphere, Romania.
