THE INFLUENCE OF THE HORIZONTAL MOVEMENTS
ON TRANSYLVANIAN BASIN SUBSIDENCE
(Abstract)
The subsidence models of the sedimentary basins, published by now, have granted
little importance, when they do not completely neglect them, to horizontal
movements as formation factor of the sedimentary basins.
The paper highlights the special geological setting of the Transylvanian Basin:
in the set-up of horizontal movements of the terrestrial crust of Romania,
caused by relative movements of the lithospheric and interalpine micro-plates,
the Transylvanian basin is caught like in a vice, beginning from Carpathians
orogenesis.
To a more complex model of the Transylvanian basin subsidence, it is necessary
to integrate the subsidence movements (predominantly vertically) with horizontal
ones dues to both lithospheric plate displacement and extension of the basin
during Badenian.
Key words: subsidence, horizontal movements, Transylvanian Basin.
