INFERIOR MOLASSE STRUCTURE IN THE FOREMOST PERICARPATHIAN NAPPE
(Abstract)
We can stipulate that the depression in front of the Carpathians can be studied
by 3-D seismic surveys. In special cases, however, bidimensional seismic surveying
allows good results. A similar case occurred in the southern Gethic Depression
between the oltetului and the Olt Valleys.
In this area, the miocene formations show a laminated fold structure, which
becomes almost horizontal the more foreward the fold is, and longitudinally,
the are considerably extended and can be approximated by horizontal cylinders.
By a close analysis of the seismic sections bidimensionally processed, we have
succeeded in separating four seismic sequences. The seismic facies analysis
of the Burdigalian-badenian sequence allowed, besides its separation into bottom
and top seismic sections, the identification of those reflections corresponding
to a horizon that can be followed despite the strong tectonics that caused
it to break and steepen, which is a specific feature of the laminated folds.
Thus we could identify five laminated folds each overlapping the previous one,
on large distances, the more forward it is.
Such analysis can be carried out all along the fore areas of the Pericarpathian
Nappe, which will lead to the identification of new interesting hydrocarbons
structures.
