RELATIONS BETWEEN THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES AND THE MINERALOGICAL
COMPOSITION OF METEORITES FROM ROMANIA AND COMPARISON WITH
METEORITES FROM OTHER COUNTRIES
(Abstract)
The results obtained in studying some physical properties of meteorites fallen
in Romania are presented and the correlation between these properties and he
mineralogical composition is considered.
The researches have been carried out both on natural fragments and cubes cut
from these, that is on samples with and without superficial oxidic crust.
In the case of magnetic properties, considerable differences have been noticed,
especially concerning the natural remanent magnetization values In, measured
on natural fragments and on cubes. These differences could be explained by
physical and chemical processes taking place when the meteorites pass through
the Earth's atmosphere.
Finally the physical property values of meteorites studied in this work are
compared with those given for meteorites fallen in other countries.
