THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE VRANCEA EARTHQUAKES TRIGGERING AND THE EARTH TIDES
(Abstract)
The earth tides, by their additional variable stresses superimposed on the
tectonic stresses have a triggering effect for the earthquakes.
In this note the dependence between the Vrancea earthquakes and the earthtides
(in the interval 1 Apr. 1977 – 1 Apr. 1978) is studied. It is shown that
44.7% of the 369 Vrancea earthquakes with M < 3 and 51% of the 51 Vrancea
earthquakes with M > 3 are situated near the tide extrema.
