ON THE MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF BAUXITES FROM THE
PADUREA CRAIULUI MOUNTAINS
(Abstract)
In this paper some considerations regarding the magnetization of bauxites
from the Padurea Craiului Mountains (Western Carpathians, Romania) are pointed
out.
More than 200 bauxite specimens ere measured (remanent magnetization and magnetic
susceptibility) and the conclusion of large magnetic properties variation was
established. In addition, there was found a predominance of the remanence (the
Köenigsberger ratio exceeds 1 of 96% of samples). This fact is important
for the reconsideration of the magnetic prospecting of the bauxite deposits.
Besides, the paper deals with some methodological aspects of analysis of the
remanent intensities and susceptibilities. Some results concerning the Mössbauer
spectra of bauxites are also presented. Finally, the idea of using this type
of rocks in palaeomagnetic studies is suggested.
