Abstract
In this work the author examines the possibility of determining the magnitude
of the normal earthquakes (h < 100 km), produced on the territory of the
Romanian People's Republic.
The solving of this problem was quite difficult because of the very small number
of observations data and of the small intensities of the shocks.
The author presents the solutions obtained in the case of the Carpathian earthquakes,
the most active zone from the seismic point of view on the territory of the
Romanian people's Republic. The magnitude M was obtained by using the calibration
curves for
T smaller than 3 sec. [7] as well as the length of time t = F – S.
The application of the second method was possible due to the observation that
the pendulum Wiechert from Budapest and the pendulum of modified Mainka type
from Bucharest have the same sensibility.
The values and
Mt are quite similar, having in view the fact that the value Mt changes very
little according to delta, it will be considered
as a fundamental
system in the future researches.
The paper contains also some suggestions for the future researches in this
problem.
