III. NORMAL FIELD REDUCTION ACCORDING TO THE INTERNATIONAL FORMULA, FOR THE TERRITORY OF THE ROMANIAN PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC

Radu Botezatu and Ruxandra Stefanescu

Abstract

The authors present the chart of the normal field reductions of gravity, computed by means of the international formula, within the limits of 43°30' and 48°30' latitude corresponding to the territory of the Romanian People's Republic, for a 10" interval. After a preliminary calculation, the plotted values have been balanced because the difference between two successive values within a 10" interval could follow as accurately as possible the theoretic variation law given by the working formula. Consequently, the approximations due to calculations were for the greatest part eliminated, obtaining at the same time, a more convenient chart for the interpolation of the reduction values at latitudes intermediate to the plotted ones.
The chart is accompanied by a brief text in which the advantages of the initial plotting of the reduction values of normal field for the construction of national gravimetric maps, the mode of calculation of the chart as well as the accuracy of the plotted values compared with those of similar charts with which they partly coincide are shown. Some problems concerning the history and the prospects of future communications of the international formula are also briefly reviewed. For those particularly interested in such problems, bibliographical references are given.
