The authors presented in 1972 a seismic zoning pattern of the Romanian territory
on the basis of the geological formation seismic behaviour and competency for
the November 10, 1940 earthquake. The method consisted in computation of the
behaviour and competency using the data of densities and longitudinal seismic
waves velocities of rocks and geological formations obtained in deep bore holes.
By the same method, in the present paper, they present a new pattern for the
March 4, 1977 earthquake, examined in comparison with the preceding one. Because
the main shock epicenter of the March 4, 1977earthquake was at 55 kilometers
SW from the November 10, 1940 epicenter, the isolines of the 7 and 8 seismic
intensity are more extended in the W and SW of Romanian Plain and less in the
NW. It reveals a good correspondence with the region of important damages in
our country.
KEY WORDS: seismic zoning, seismic behaviour and seismic competency, bore-hole
data, seismic intensities.
