This paper describes the methods used (in surface and underground works)
to underline the contrasts of natural gamma activity between different rocks
associated with the mineralizations of polymetallic sulphides in the Muncel
deposit zone (Poiana Rusca). Due to laboratory radiometric analyses for U,
Th and 40K, the bench mark rocks were identified. Their study by radiometric
classification leads to the identification of mineralized zones. Starting from
the hypothesis that rock radioactivity would be attenuated by the presence
of heavy elements, we obtained also a direct correlation between the lead content
and the intensity of natural gamma radioactivity recorded on the walls of a
mining work.
