This paper presents a first image of the Earth crust in the south-western part of Romania (Craiova – Petrosani area) determined on the basis of deep seismic soundings performed during 1975 – 1976.
Quantitative interpretations of seismic observations permitted the drawing up of a structural sketch at the level of the Mohorovicic discontinuity which evidenced a thickening of the crust from the south to the north, with an improvement of the respective gradient in the crystalline arrea of the Southern Carpathians.
