The authors measured the Aitken and the condensation nuclei as well as the
dust concentration, in Bucharest, during the cold period of the year. They
found a low polluting background resulting from industrial and domestic combustions
and pointed out that traffic was the main source of pollution. In addition
they noticed that the statistical equilibrium between the formation and the
disappearance rate of pollution shifts towards a pronounced increasing of the
formation rate as compared to the disapparance one. This leads to the risc
in pollution concentration. Besides pollution sources, this effect is also
due to several meteorological factors as well as to the local topography of
the investigated areas.
In conclusion, the authors suggest the introduction of a "green wave" along
the streets with high traffic, since traffic without stop and with constant
speed leads to the diminution of the amount of gas ejected by engines.
